Intended Use

This kit is used for the in vitro qualitative detection of human metapneumovirus nucleic acid (RNA) in oral pharyngeal swab samples, and can detect both human metapneumovirus types A and B. 

Human metapenumovirus (HMPV) is a single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus, belonging to the family Paramyxoviridae and the genus Metapneumovirus. It is one of the most important pathogens in acute respiratory tract infections in children, with an infection rate second only to respiratory tract infections,Syncytial virus. Human metapneumovirus infection can manifest as upper and lower respiratory tract infections. In mild cases, it may manifest as upper respiratory tract discomfort and flu-like symptoms, and in severe cases, bronchitis and pneumonia. People of all ages can be infected, especially infants, the elderly and People with compromised immune systems are susceptible, and severe cases can lead to death. 

Current clinical or laboratory diagnostic methods mainly include serological examination, virus isolation and culture, and molecular biology diagnosis. Serological methods are limited to detecting HMPV-specific IgG and cannot diagnose HMPV infection early. Virus isolation and culture method is one of the most reliable methods for diagnosing viruses and is currently the gold standard for HMPV etiology detection. However, the cultivation of HMPV is difficult and takes a long time, and the positive rate of virus isolation is extremely low. The most sensitive and commonly used method for diagnosing HMPV is molecular biology detection of respiratory secretions, mainly reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Experimental operators should have received professional training in gene amplification or molecular biology method detection, and have relevant experimental operation qualifications. The laboratory should have reasonable biosafety prevention facilities and protection procedures.

This product is suitable for clinical auxiliary diagnosis of human metapneumovirus infection and cannot be used alone as a basis for confirming or excluding cases.
